Sumidero Canyon

This was an awe-inspiring place in Chiapas, Mexico, and yet this is the only photo I have. Back in the old days before the digital revolution — prior to 2000, say — a backpacker had to carry all her photo gear — heavy lenses, big heavy cameras, film canisters, etc — and you had to wait before getting all your precious film developed — so I tended to be sparing about the photos I took. Look to this excellent blog for a hot-off-the-press photo essay about Sumidero Canyon.

  1. Yes but maybe we saw more in those days. I have places I went in the 80s/90s and didn’t take a single photo, now it’s not unusual for me to be downloading 60-70 at the end of one day.
