Aksu, one day’s journey from Kashgar. This taken from my travel diary: Sunday was Bazha day, or market day. What a spectacle! The size of three football fields with so much for sale–fabrics of all kinds from tacky synthetics to scratchy silks and one brocade patterned, chenille-like fabric I would have bought if I didn’t have to carry it in my backpack, hand-made Russian-style boots, hand-made fur hats, sheep, new donkey carts, stallions, and even camels. Lived up to its ancient reputation as one of the best markets in Central Asia.
