Kashgar

Anyone want to buy a camel? These were for sale at the Bazha Market. Camels have such a calmness about them.

Aksu, one day's journey from Kashgar. This taken from my travel diary: Sunday was Bazha day, or market day. What a spectacle! The size of three football fields with so much for sale--fabrics of all kinds from tacky synthetics to scratchy silks and one brocade patterned, chenille-like fabric I would have bought if I didn't have to carry it in my backpack, hand-made Russian-style boots, hand-made fur hats, sheep, new donkey carts, stallions, and even camels. Lived up to its ancient reputation as one of the best markets in Central Asia.

Beautiful mosque. Unfortunately I don't remember its name.

1986. Wonder what Kashgar looks like now. Somehow I doubt it and think I saw this ancient town just before it succumbed to the 'modern' world.

The bus to Kashgar took 6 days around the Taklamakan Desert and this ride with the local Uygers was the last leg of the journey.
